tHIS pAGE SHOWCASES VARIOUS PRIDES PROJECTS
SUN CITY SIGN PROJECT
Sun City Signs
This has been a struggle which began some 18 months ago. You see several of us wanted to see something different as far as the entrance signs entering Sun City. A Sign Committee was formed by the Sun City PRIDES to look into what could be done about our signage.
The committee was comprised of PRIDES members, Lloyd Maple, Molly Soblewski, Ron Bedoe, Ken Smith and Rosie Swain. Also, three individuals from the community were ask to join for their expertise and knowledge. They were Ben Roloff from the Sun City Historical Society, Greg Eisert who had worked tirelessly with AZ legislature on our water rates & Jim Stark a lawyer and past president of SCHOA. This committee went to work immediately looking at what could be done.
It was quickly learned that the committee would need to receive authority from Del Webb Corp, who is now owned by Pulte Homes, to proceed. The committee communicated through a law firm in Nashville Tennessee who represented Pulte’s interest. Many rights were sold to Pulte from the old Del Webb Corp. Many back & forth conversations over the next year, a compromise was struck with the PRIDES receiving a Trade Agreement from Pulte giving the PRIDES full use of the name Sun City as well as the Sunburst logo, clearing the way for the PRIDES to redesign and the County, at no cost to the PRIDES, to replace the redesigned metal entrance signs. They were replaced by the County about a week ago. The PRIDES have received many positive comments from the public.
The next project has to do with updating the two monument signs at 99th & Alabama as well as the sign at 111th & Peoria. This project is not free and the PRIDES have already received $4,200 from many individuals of the Community to see that this gets completed.
The signs have been redesigned & bids sent & received from Contractors to do the work. At this writing, the committee is only waiting for a permit from the County.
More money is needed and if you would like to be part of this project you can send a donation to: The PRIDES, P O Box 1463, Sun City, AZ 85009. Make sure you designate for the “Signs”. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
